Apache plume (Fallugia paradoxa) is a pretty native shrub that is exceptionally drought tolerant.

Virtues: Blooms continually; produces pretty feathery seedheads; extremely drought tolerant.

Flowers: Five-petaled white flowers appear from late spring through the summer. Seedheads are pinkish, fluffy and long lasting.

Habit: Semi-evergreen shrub, four feet tall and wide

Origin: Rocky slopes, open woods and dry washes of central Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Southern California.

Cultivation: Grow in average or sandy soil, in full sun or part (afternoon) sun. Very tolerant of drought, heat, wind and poor soil. USDA Zones 4 to 9.
