Common name: Swan River daisy
Botanical name: Brachycome iberidifolia
Flowers/Fruit: Daisy-like flowers with blue, violet or white rays and yellow to almost black center disks. Flowers appear in a profuse bloom that generally lasts for 3-4 weeks.
Foliage: Green leaves divided into narrow, linear segments. Often obscured by heavy flowering.
Habit: Swan River daisy grows 12-18" tall.
Season: Spring and fall (May-frost).
Origin: Native to Western and South Australia.
Cultivation: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date. Seed may also be sown directly in the garden after last frost date, with optional successive sowings every two weeks to extend the bloom throughout the summer. Sow seed in mid summer for fall bloom. Grows best in cool summer climates and in rich, well drained soils in full sun. Shear plants back by about half during the peak of summer to rejuvenate flowers and to encourage fall bloom. USDA Zones 2-11.
