Question: I had two cymbidiums outside last summer. Although there was practically no rain and I was not home to water them, each plant bloomed as never before. I have heard that orchids need misting and thrive in the jungle. So why the lush flowering?
Answer: Terrestrial cymbidium orchids need little catering to other than an occasional fertilizing and plenty of water during their growing period. Contrary to the belief that all orchids need junglelike shade, the cymbidium's flowering is triggered by plenty of sunny days-which yours received-and cool summer nights.
