Pruning Grape Vines

When I pruned my grape vines this month they bled badly.  Will this harm the vines or prevent fruit set?…

Question: When I pruned my grape vines this month they bled badly. Will this harm the vines or prevent fruit set?

Answer: Grapes are pruned late winter or early spring before the buds swell and all tend to bleed a little. Heavy bleeding can be expected if you prune when the temperature is above freezing. Next year pick a cold day in March which will be less comfortable for you but perhaps better for the grape vines. No harm should result from the bleeding and there is no effect on fruit set.
