Question: I consider Tahitian bridal veil to be a delightful houseplant. I’ve heard that it can be grown as a groundcover in greenhouses. Can you tell me how to care for it?

Answer: Although commonly cultivated in pots and hanging baskets, Tahitian bridal veil (Gibasis geniculata), a native of Mexico and South America, can be grown as a groundcover beneath greenhouse benches. During the active growth period, water the surface of the medium when it feels dry to the touch; water less often during its rest period. Never let Tahitian bridal veil dry out severely because many of the older leaves will die along the stems. Pinch back young plants to encourage branching. Fertilize every month or two with a complete soluble houseplant fertilizer such as 20-20-20. Cease fertilizing during the winter rest period and maintain a winter greenhouse temperature of 50 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
