Tip of the Week: Free Mulch
Reader Betsy Hedden shares how she gets free mulch and where she uses it. Try it!
Here's a mulching tip from one of our e-news readers:
I have found a good source of mulch is shredded trimmings from utilities prunning around wires. The shredders are glad to give you a half load. I used the shredded branches for paths and large areas of mature shrubs and trees. I don't recommend them for flowers or vegetable gardens. Use gloves when handling the mulch as it may contain poison ivy. The mulch goes to pieces in a couple of years, leaving good humus.
