Common name: Bush morning glory
Botanical name:Ipomoea leptophylla
Virtues: Rugged plant with profuse pretty summer flowers. Attracts hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.
Flowers: Light pink trumpet-like flowers, 3 inches wide at the mouth with a 4-inch-long throat. These are open in the morning only. Throat is a darker pink.
Foliage: Narrow green leaves.
Habit: Bushy perennial to 3 feet high and 5 feet wide.
Season: Summer, for bloom.
Origin: Dry plains of the Interior West and Great Plains, from Montana south through Texas.
Cultivation: Grow in full sun, in well-drained sandy or rocky soil. Very drought tolerant. Can be hard to transplant. For best results, direct-sow seeds in spring. Soak the seeds in water overnight before sowing them. Zones 3–9.
