You Know You’re A Chicago Gardener If…

I am willing to bet money on the fact that other Chicagoans were in their gardens today, even though it’s mid-December…

Four days ago it was sub-zero. Seriously, I woke up to a negative four on my Blackberry's Weatherbug app and by the time I left work it had risen a whole lot, to two degrees. With the wind chill, "the man" said it was well into the negative twenties....

I still had garden chores to do but I had no worries. I am secure in the fact that our weather pendulum swings wildly and I was still going to have time to make a boxwood hedge, sink some bulbs and do some general clean-up. All of which I have accomplished today, and then some.

It's 34 degrees out and after Thursday's weather... it may as well be a sweltering 80. I'm outside wearing no coat, gloves or scarf... emptying my trunk of the last minute pitchouts that are currently plantsicles (hey, you never know!), clearing away November's gourds (you caught me) and taking a few branches of our enormundo Blue Spruce for the window boxes.

It feels good, very good. Way better than spending the afternoon at the mall....

Chillin' in the forum....
