Virtues: Long bloom period. Delicate, pretty flowers. Tall and narrow shape makes it a good filler for flowerbeds. Will grow in a container. Looks lovely waving in breeze.
Flower: White to pinkish white flowers open from spring to early autumn. With their four petals, the flowers look somewhat like moths or butterflies.
Foliage: Thin tall stems hold narrow stemless leaves.
Habit: Clump-forming perennial. Grows 3 to 5 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet wide. Dense thin stems give the plant a grassy look.
Season: Spring to early autumn.
Origin: Texas and Louisiana.
Cultivation: Prefers sandy, well-drained, somewhat poor soil. Requires full sun. Deadheading will prolong bloom. Can be grown as an annual where it isn’t hardy. Will self-seed if flowers are not removed at end of season. Tolerates heat, humidity, drought. USDA Zones 5–9.
