We Love Caladium ‘Modern Art’

We love Caladium ‘Modern Art’ for its stunning foliage that is perfect in container gardens as well as in the garden bed. In containers, ‘Modern Art’ is the focal point, the plant around which the design is based. In the garden, large bands of caladiums make a stunning display of color all season long.

Pests/Diseases: The most common diseases facing caladiums are Fusarium and Pythium. The main symptom is root rot.
Plant: Bulbs should be covered with 1.5 to 2 inches of soil and planted in the spring, after the last frost of the season.
Winter Storage: To prevent stunted growth, caladium bulbs should never be stored in temperatures below 60°F or above 90°F.

When planting caladiums in containers, use a well-draining potting mix with a considerable amount of organic matter. Bulbs planted in the garden should be in beds composed of well-draining soil, and installed in the spring after the threat of frost has passed. Hard, compact clay or saturated soil will stunt or kill the plant. Caladiums do best with consistent watering. For optimal growth in containers or in the garden bed, a slow-release fertilizer is recommended.
