Sugar Tyme: a Beautiful Flowering Crabapple Tree

Virtues: We love Sugar Tyme crabapple for its glossy, rich green ovate foliage and stunning pink flower buds that blossom into fragrant, snowy white flowers in spring. Masses of radiant red crabapples appear in fall and stay throughout winter.

Botanical name:Malus ‘Sutyzam’

Flowers: In mi-spring, pale pink buds reveal sweet-smelling, pure white blooms followed by clusters of vibrant red berry-like fruits in fall through winter.

Foliage: Slender ovate, deep green leaves add a wonderful contrast to the spectacular white blooms of spring. In fall, the leaves become tinged with a hue of golden yellow.

Habit: Sugar Tyme crabapples have an upright habit with an oval crown. They can reach a height of 20 feet with a 15-foot spread.

Season: With ruby red fruit in fall through winter, beautiful green foliage through the season that turns a striking shade of bronzed-yellow in fall, and charming white flowers in spring, these deciduous trees look spectacular all year long.

How to grow Sugar Tyme Crabapple: Sugar Tyme crabapples are most successful when planted in well-drained acidic soil. Prune in May to June after the plant is done blooming, if desired. Sugar Tyme crabapples thrive in full sun. USDA Zones 4–8.
