‘Solar Cascade’ Goldenrod
We love ‘Solar Cascade’ goldenrod (Solidago shortii ‘Solar Cascade’) for its arching stems of bright yellow flowers, drought tolerance, compact size and non-aggressive nature.
Virtues: Bright yellow flowers in late summer. Compact size and shape. Arching flower stems are highly textural. Less problematic than other goldenrods in regards to spreading. Drought tolerant, deer resistant and pollinator/hummingbird friendly. Similar to but smaller than Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks'.

Flowers: Small, bright yellow individual flowers are carried in quantity along arching stems, giving an all-over high-impact floral display. Flowers from late summer into fall.
Foliage: Dark green and glossy.
Habit: Clump-forming herbaceous perennial to 30 inches tall and 24 inches wide.
Season: Late summer and autumn, for flowers.
Origin: Cultivar of Solidago shortii, an endangered wildflower native to Indiana and northern Kentucky.
Cultivation: Grow in full or partial sun and average garden soil. Highly drought tolerant once established, but appreciates regular moisture. Does not spread aggressively because its rhizomes (underground stems) are short. Deer resistant. USDA Zones 3–8.
