Canopy Walk opens at the Atlanta Botanical Garden
On May 1, the new Canopy Walk at the Atlanta Botanical Garden will open to visitors. The Canopy Walk is a wood and concrete bridge nestled 40 feet high in the trees of Storza Woods, which is adjacent to the garden. From high amid the oaks, hickories and poplars, visitors will look down a woodland garden that includes native azaleas, camellias, hydrangeas, perennials and bulbs. American Forests, a nonprofit organization, to plant 4.8 million trees this year
The nonprofit conservation organization American Forests will plant 4.8 million trees this year to help restore forests important for endangered wildlife, clean water and carbon sequestration. The project is being rolled out by Global ReLeaf, the tree-planting arm of American Forests. Trees will be planted in 14 states and 10 countries. For more info see www.americanforests.org.
New stamp features pansies
Every year the United States Postal Service issues a "Love" stamp, and in 2010 it's one that many gardeners will surely love. The image shows purple pansies in a white basket. These cool-season annuals mean the arrival of spring to gardeners in the north; for southern gardeners they help make winter more colorful.
