Besides being great places to visit, arboreta and other public gardens are the sites of plant research and breeding programs. They have given rise to some of the most treasured plant varieties in gardens across the country. Here are a few of our favorite plants introduced by arboreta:

'Henry's Garnet' sweetspire (shown)

'Black Pearl' ornamental pepper

Ilex 'Sparkleberry'

'Early Bright' witch hazel

Ilex crenata 'Sky Pencil'

'De La Mina' verbena

Scarlet Beauty sweetspire
