Something has been eating my tomatoes, and over the weekend I saw the culprit. A woodchuck waddled over, reached up, bent a branch down and grabbed a tomato! How can I keep woodchucks out of my vegetable garden?

Cooking with Swiss Chard

Swiss chard has infinite potential in the kitchen.

  • Renee Shepherd of Renee’s Garden Seeds suggests stuffed chard; her favorite filling is sausage, egg, breadcrumbs and herbs.
  • In our house, the growing season wouldn’t be the same without chard tarts, and the colorful addition of chopped chard leaves in garden vegetable soup.
  • A simple sauté with onions, dried cranberries and balsamic vinegar has become a fixture on our family’s Thanksgiving menu.
