Until now, the golden hemlock was relegated to the shade. Thankfully, Monrovia has introduced a new variety, Golden Duke, that is at home in the sun or shade. A sport from Golden Duchess, this superb new conifer glows with golden-yellow foliage on graceful, upright and arching branches. A very slow growing tree, it can take up to 10 years to reach its mature height of 6 to 10 feet—making it ideal for ornamental rock gardens, containers and smaller garden designs.
Botanical name: Tsuga canadensis ‘Monjers’
Common name: Golden Duke Eastern Hemlock
Foliage: Evergreen, yellow-gold color
Height: 6–10 feet
Growth rate: Slow, will take up to 10 years to reach mature height

Golden Duke does require regular watering, especially in the heat of the summer. Its golden foliage provides year-round interest.
