Plant name: Siberian squill
Botanical name: Scilla siberica
Virtues: This bulb blooms early in spring; naturalizes easily; tolerates shade.
Flower: Drooping and star-shaped. Can be white, pink or lavender, but most common color is a lovely deep blue.
Foliage: Straplike green leaves.
Habit: Colonizing bulb; 4 to 12 inches tall.
Season: Early spring.
Origin: Asia
Cultivation: Plant bulbs in the fall, 2 to 3 inches deep. Likes average soil and moderate moisture. Grows and blooms in full sun to full shade. USDA Zones 3–8.
