Plants We Love: Fairy

Plant name: Fairy’s fishing rod, fairy wand, wandflower

Botanical name: Dierama pucherrimum

Virtues: Delicate but dramatic flowers.

Foliage: Thin upright grassy leaves to 24 inches long.

Flower: Blooms in early to midsummer with large pink bell-shaped flowers on tall arching stems.

Habit: Grasslike mound growing from a bulbous base.

Season: Summer.

Origin: South Africa.

Cultivation: Requires moist soil and excellent drainage. USDA Zones 4–8.
