Edible Spotlight: Dolce Fresca Basil

This new basil is compact, fragrant and perfect for container and traditional gardens and it is delicious. The compact nature of ‘Dolce Fresca’, less than 2 feet tall, makes it ideally suited for container and windowsill gardens. This basil is a 2015 winner of the All-American Selection award.

Dolce Basil

Features:
Large, flat leaves
Compact size
Late flowering – less time spent pinching back flower buds
Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last expected frost and transplant when plants have two sets of true leaves.
Direct sow in the garden once the soil has warmed up and the threat of frost is past.
Germination: 5–10 days
Spacing: 12–15 apart

Pinch: At 6 weeks, pinch back central stem. When a stem has more than 8 leaves, pinch it back. Doing so creates a bushier plant that will provide fresh leaves for harvesting throughout the season.
