Venice, CA 310-821-1857

Not only does the Venice Garden and Home Tour afford gardeners the chance to take inspiration from some of California’s finest private gardens, it also helps Venice Garden disadvantaged youth to succeed. A tax deductible $60 ticket ($70 if purchased and Home Tour the day of the event) opens the doors to 30 of Venice’s most witty, playful, and sophisticated gardens, and also helps to fund the work of the Neighborhood Youth Association’s Las Doradas Children’s Center, which provides education- based child care for underprivileged youth. At each stop on the tour, docents will be hand to answer questions and hand out plant lists

Groundbreaking artist Dale Chihuly’s vibrant, otherworldly glass sculptures are on display this month at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables, Florida (a suburb of Miami). Chihuly is a truly unique artist whose team approach to glassblowing allows him to create intricate multipart sculptures that are often inspired by memories of the landscape of his hometown of Tacoma, Washington. The organic shapes of Chihuly’s pieces, such as Striped Serpent Tongue Antlers (right) make them perfect for installation in the Fairchild gardens, where they create mini-environments within the landscaping to establish a direct link between nature and art. The resulting exhibit provokes thought about the artistic elements of gardening and the organic elements of art. Visitors can elements of art. Visitors can examine the interplay of sunlight with Chihuly’s glass works during the day or take advantage of once-weekly extended hours for night viewing of the installations under dramatic lighting. Chihuly’s works, already full of personality, will undoubtedly seem to live and photosynthesize as they reflect and refract the weekly light show.
